Health insurance for Italy?

4
kataj asked:

I'm moving to Italy in two weeks.

I need basic (for emergencies and pregnancy) health insurance for when I apply for a carta di soggiorno as a dependent EU family member.

Can anyone recommend me an Italian or EU based health insurance company that's cheap?

Thanks.
Thank you, but unfortunately foreigners need private insurance before applying for residency.
Then, we get free medical care after we apply!
Ironic.

you dont need health insurance..over there you just go to the doctor and they will take care of things..italy is very good for medical care…still if you have doubts you can check when you apply for la cart DI soggiorno…

There is no need of private insurance.
The INPS provides for all.

I'm an American and moved to Italy.

First trip to the doctor, was actually a ski slope accident .

I paid zilch. Nada……Niente……..Nothing……and that was for emergency room care, an ambulance ride, xrays, and doctor consulations. I expected a hefty bill, and they told me to get lost.

All I had was my permesso di soggiorno. Now, I am a full fledged citizen…….and I pay plenty for visits to specialists.

Go figure.
